Study Shows Haredi and Secular Women Face Equal Risk of Eating Disorders

A recent study published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders unveiled the unbiased nature of these deadly diseases.  In an investigation to determine whether or not Haredi or Secular Women in the Jewish community faced an increase risk of developing an eating disorder, this study followed 800 Jewish women between the ages of 21-80 for research in this area.  Results yielded surprisingly even statistics between the two groups, showing that both groups of women faced equal risk of developing an eating disorder.  However, both Haredi and Secular women within the Jewish community encounter unique challenges and obstacles that can further increase their likelihood of engaging in disordered eating behaviors.  To learn more about this study, please read here.

Eating Disorders do not discriminate and can affect women and men regardless of nationality or religion.  For more information and resources about international eating disorder treatment, please visit the International Section of the Eating Disorder Hope Website.
